Cast-iron pans and Dutch ovens
Cast iron pans come in several varieties. For example, you can choose from a cast iron frying pan, wok pan, frying pan or even a poffertjes pan. They are available in different colours, shapes and sizes. Made of cast iron, they are very strong and can last a lifetime! Dutch ovens are a household name for the adventurous cook.
Why legs under the Dutch Oven?
The Dutch oven is a cast-iron cooking pot that owes its name to Dutch blacksmiths. The Dutch oven allows you to prepare delicious dishes and makes roasting, stewing and baking a breeze. There are Dutch ovens with or without feet and we are happy to explain the difference below:
Dutch Oven with legs
-
Because of its legs, the Dutch oven with legs stands more firmly in a campfire
-
The feet under the pan allow the coals underneath to get sufficient oxygen
-
This pan is less easy to use in the Kamado, on a grill rack or indoors in your oven or on the gas cooker
Dutch Oven without legs
-
The Dutch Oven without legs can also be used indoors in the oven or on your cooker
-
You can also use it better, for example in your Kamado barbecue or on a grill rack, as with a tripod
-
If you want to keep distance between your briquettes and the bottom of the pan, this is more difficult and you will need, for example, a trivet
