What is a tripod?
A tripod is one of the oldest methods of cooking over an open fire. This simple structure has been used for centuries to prepare meals. The tripod, consisting of three legs made of black steel, can easily be placed around a fire bowl. Between the legs hangs a grill rack or hook, perfect for suspending a campfire pot. An indispensable addition to your fire bowl!
How does a tripod work?
Here we explain how to easily use a tripod over a fire bowl:
- Place the fire bowl on a sturdy, flat surface, preferably on a non-flammable surface.
- Assemble the tripod by unfolding the legs and placing them firmly on the ground over the fire bowl. Make sure the tripod is stable and does not wobble.
- Hang the chain or hook of the tripod over the fire bowl. This can be easily done by attaching the hook or chain to an adjustable point at the top of the tripod.
- Place a grill rack, grate, pan, or cooking pot on the hook or chain. Ensure it is securely fastened.
- Light the fire in the fire bowl and let it burn until it reaches the desired temperature.
- Place the food on the grill rack or in the pot or pan and start cooking or grilling!
- Monitor the fire and adjust the temperature as needed by adding more wood or moving the logs to regulate the heat. You can also raise or lower the grill rack or pan to cook more gently or intensify the heat.
- When cooking is complete, use heat-protective gloves to safely remove the food from the grill rack or pan.
What should you look out for when buying a tripod?
It is important that the tripod is sturdy and stable, as you are working with fire and do not want the tripod to tip over while cooking. Also, check that the chain is strong enough and that it can be adjusted to different heights. Additionally, it is important to consider the size of the pot you attach to the chain. Make sure the pot is large enough for the dish, but not too heavy for the chain.
