What is the difference between wood-fired barbecues and charcoal barbecues?
The main differences between wood-fired barbecues and charcoal barbecues lie in the type of fuel, the flavor, and the temperature control.
Fuel:
- Wood-fired barbecues use wood as fuel. This can produce different flavors depending on the type of wood used.
- Charcoal barbecues use charcoal as fuel. Charcoal is made by burning wood in a low-oxygen environment, resulting in a fuel that burns better than regular wood.
Flavor:
- Since wood-fired barbecues use real wood, they can add a strong, smoky flavor to the food being cooked. The choice of wood can influence the flavor, such as oak, hickory, applewood, etc.
- Charcoal barbecues, on the other hand, impart a more subtle smoky flavor to the food.
Temperature Control:
- It can be a bit more challenging to regulate the temperature with wood-fired barbecues because they burn hotter than charcoal barbecues. Wood has a higher energy density than charcoal, resulting in more heat.
- The temperature of a charcoal barbecue is easier to control because charcoal has a more predictable burn rate.
Both types of barbecues have their advantages. The choice often depends on personal preference, the desired flavor profile, and the ease of use.
OFYR cooking units
The cooking islands and freestanding fire bowls with planchas are perfect cooking units for preparing an entire meal. The cone shape of the firebowl allows you to create several heat zones on the plancha with a single fire. With these heat zones, you can play around and prepare many different ingredients at once
Take the OFYR Island Black 100 Pro as an example. This cooking island is a real filler and addition for your garden. With this island, you can both prepare ingredients and bake them on the plancha. Want to place your cooking island somewhere else in the garden? This cooking island has practical wheels which allow you to move it anywhere.
BonBiza fire bowl with plancha
Just like the OFYR cooking units, the BonFeu BonBiza consists of a base with a fire bowl and plancha baking plate. The BonBiza is a real winner when it comes to combining a stylish object with the convenience and use of a barbecue.
Plancha baking is a very old way of cooking. Using a very hot plate (and sometimes with multiple heat zones), you cook ingredients quickly and the juices stay sufficiently in the ingredients. This is an easy, quick and healthy way of cooking.

How can I keep my barbecue in good condition and extend its lifespan?
We provide you with some tips for maintaining your barbecue so that you can enjoy the ultimate outdoor cooking experience time and again!
- Clean the barbecue after each use: Remove food residue and grease from the grate and the inside of the barbecue. Use a grill brush if necessary to remove stubborn dirt.
- Regularly check for rust: Especially on metal parts such as the grate or the housing. Sand away rust and apply a protective coating if needed.
- Protect the barbecue from the elements: If you leave the barbecue outside, cover it with a protective cover when not in use. If you have a corten steel barbecue, this is not necessary.
- Use high-quality charcoal or fuel: Good quality charcoal and fuel can extend the lifespan of your barbecue and improve its performance. Choose products that produce little ash and provide long-lasting heat.
- Perform regular inspections: Regularly check all parts of the barbecue, including the handles, wheels, and hinges. Repair or replace parts as needed.
